Why a wetsuit?

The function of the wetsuit is based on the fact that a small layer of water gets between it and the skin, which is heated by the body. When the wet suit fits snugly enough, the water does not get to change constantly inside the suit, but the suit maintains the appropriate warmth. The thermal effect of the suit increases as the thickness of the neoprene increases, and it can also be enhanced with the help of other neoprene products, such as socks, gloves and headgear.

The open water swimming season, especially in northern Europe, remains relatively short without the warmth of neoprene. In addition, most open water swimming competitions require their participants to wear a wetsuit even in warmer summer weather, because despite the heat in the air, longer time in the water causes considerable heat loss.
