So you don't have to open the lid at all except for washing. The structure also eliminates the possibility of losing the cap. The angle, dimensions and shape of the drinking opening are designed to provide a large water flow, so that a single dose can be sufficient if necessary. The mouth opening is smooth throughout, allowing your lips to fit tightly around the edges of the opening.
